Stefanie Sanford is the Director of Advocacy for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  Prior to joining the foundation, Sanford was Director of Technology Policy and Deputy Director of the policy office for Texas Governor Rick Perry.  Prior to that appointment, she served as Special Assistant for Technology for (then) Lieutenant Governor Perry.   She has written and spoken extensively on education policy and the impact of technology on public institutions and civic participation.  Sanford holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas, a MPA from Harvard, and a Bachelors degree from Texas Christian University.  She and her husband live in Washington DC and Seattle.
