National “Choices in Education” Video Contest Invites Families to Share Their Stories

Opportunity

Today, a dozen national partners launched the “Choices in Education” video contest at www.ChoicesInEd.org. The contest provides the families and students who have experienced the power of educational freedom with a forum for sharing their life-changing stories.

Over the next month, students, parents and alumni of educational choice programs across the country are encouraged to submit a short video about how their choice has made a difference in their lives, and why access to more educational opportunity in their state can benefit students and families with the right educational fit.

“Millions of students across the country benefit from being able to choose the learning environment that best fits their needs – whether that is a traditional public school, charter school, magnet school, private school, blended and virtual learning or homeschool,” said Patricia Levesque, ExcelinEd CEO. “The Choices in Education video contest is a chance for the real experts on education to share their stories on the life-changing benefits of educational opportunity.”

Entering is simple. All participants need are a smartphone, a few minutes and a great story to share. Video submissions, which can feature students or families, will be accepted from Oct. 25 through Dec. 1.

A panel of judges from national organizations representing a broad spectrum of educational choice options will select the grand prize winners and runners-up. Three grand prize winners will receive $15,000 each, with three runners-up awarded $5,000 each.

Additionally, two people’s choice winners will be chosen from among 15 finalists through public voting in December.

Winners will be announced during National School Choice Week, Jan. 22-26, 2018.

ExcelinEd has teamed up with the nation’s leading education groups on this video competition, including American Federation for Children, Agudath Israel, Center for Education Reform, Classical Conversations, Democrats for Education Reform, EdChoice, Foundation for Blended and Online Learning, Goldwater Institute, National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, School Choice Week and the State Policy Network.
