For education to be its best, parents need an honest indicator of how their child’s school is performing. Georgia’s new A-F School Grading System will do exactly that.
By grading schools with simple A, B, C, D, and F labels that everyone understands, Georgia will be able to recognize effective schools and provide meaningful assistance to those that are not meeting expectations.
In 2016, Georgia will release an A-F School Grading System for schools, allowing Georgia to join 15 other states in grading schools A-F. Student achievement, achievement gap closure and student growth are the components that will be included in the grade—with the calculation to be determined by the State Board of Education.
A, B, C, D and F are the most prolific descriptors in education. Everyone—from a local third grader to the sitting governor—intuitively understands the difference between a “D” and a “B” grade. This immediate understanding promotes transparency within the community, district and state. And with this information, parents, educators and communities can respond to improve learning for their children.
