Celebrated Author and NYU Professor Jonathan Haidt to Address National Summit on Education Reform

The Foundation for Excellence in Education today announced that Dr. Jonathan Haidt, Thomas Cooley Professor of Ethical Leadership at New York University’s Stern School of Business, will be speaking at the 2019 National Summit on Education Reform on Wednesday, November 20 in San Diego, CA. ExcelinEd’s flagship event brings together educators from across the country and internationally to discuss ideas on how to improve education equity for all children.

At NYU-Stern, Haidt is applying his research on moral psychology to business ethics, asking how companies can structure and run themselves in ways that will be resistant to ethical failures. He is the author of the bestselling The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas are Setting Up a Generation for Failure with Greg Lukianoff.

“When Gen Z students arrived on college campuses, we experienced a tidal wave of depression, anxiety and fragility at colleges across the country, including increasing requests from students for adults to protect them from offensive ideas and to help them resolve their interpersonal conflicts. For us to understand and help these students, all the stakeholders in education and mental health will need to work together to figure out how we can we raise stronger, happier and more independent kids.”

“Ideas that challenge conventional thinking are one of Jonathan’s fortes, and they serve as a critically important way to forge new paths in education policy. We’re excited to hear Jonathan’s latest perspectives on classroom discourse, emotional development and how today’s polarized climate is impacting our children, so we can ensure today’s students become the critical thinkers and resilient leaders we urgently need.”
