By Keeping Assessments, Governor Lee is Helping Students Maintain Learning Gains During the Pandemic

Statement from Patricia Levesque, Chief Executive Officer, Foundation for Excellence in Education, on Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s decision to ensure student assessments continue.

“This is an important action for Tennessee families. By continuing assessments, Governor Lee is ensuring that parents will have information on how well their child is being prepared during this COVID-impacted school year.

“We cannot fix what we don’t see. Annual assessments ensure that teachers and parents have objective information about their children’s academic progress – regardless of their race, income or where they live.

“By knowing how each child is performing compared to the state standards, educators and policymakers will have honest and clear evidence to make the best decisions to ensure all children receive the personalized instructional support they need.”
