Statement from Patricia Levesque on the release of the 2026 Education Scorecard

Quality

Patricia Levesque, CEO of ExcelinEd, released the following statement today regarding the release of the 2026 Education Scorecard, a resource that provides state- and district-level data on student achievement and state policy:

“The Education Scorecard gives policymakers and advocates the information they need to help them understand where students are struggling and where things are improving.

“This kind of granular, actionable data is the foundation of meaningful education interventions and growth, providing an opportunity to partner with states to provide literacy, math and accountability reforms where they are needed most.

“As policymakers digest this report, it’s important to remember that there is no single policy that will turn around falling student outcomes or struggling schools. That’s why we sometimes see states that have passed many reforms but still have lagging student outcomes. Policy matters, and so does implementation.

“Thankfully, there are many proven, comprehensive actions that states can take to move in the right direction, including strong assessments, rigorous accountability, and literacy policies grounded in the science of reading. When these policies are supported with resources, implemented with fidelity and an ever-increasing bar for improvement, and protected by political leaders over time, states will see the strong outcomes our students deserve.”
