Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb Signs Budget with Historic Investments in K-12 Education

“Congratulations to Gov. Eric Holcomb for prioritizing Hoosier students and signing a state budget that expands parental choice and makes a record investment in K-12 education. His signature enables countless more children throughout the state to thrive and succeed in the learning environment that best meets their needs.  

“This forward-thinking budget not only levels the playing field for the more than 50,000 students enrolled in public charter schools, it also pioneers career scholarships to equip high school students with relevant skills and emphasizes science-based literacy to ensure Indiana’s educators are best prepared to teach fundamental reading skills.

About House Bill 1001:

• Expands the state’s Choice Scholarship Voucher Program and removes burdensome eligibility pathways requirements.
• Funds first-in-the-nation Career Savings Accounts, which students in grades 10-12 can use to gain work-based experience and grow their skills through coursework, training or apprenticeships.
• Invests $100 million for the Department of Education to combat learning loss through strategies that include literacy coaches, science of reading curriculum and professional development for teachers.
• Ensures that every non-virtual charter school receives more per-student funding.
