Statement from Gov. Jeb Bush on Education Freedom Accounts in New Hampshire

Statement by Governor Jeb Bush, founder and chair of ExcelinEd, on the creation of Education Freedom Accounts in New Hampshire. 

“New Hampshire is demonstrating leadership and vision in making America a place where every child can expect a good education, regardless of where they live or how much their family earns. 

“Education Freedom Accounts will empower parents to direct funds where their children need it most. The parents and caregivers will be in charge — as they should be. They are closest to their children, and they know what they need most of all. 

“I commend Governor Chris Sununu for his continued dedication to improving the lives of New Hampshire students. Special thanks to Senate President Chuck Morse, Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley, Senate Education Committee Chair Ruth Ward, House Speaker Sherm Packard, House Education Committee Chair Rick Ladd and Representative Glenn Cordelli for prioritizing the interests of children and families.” 

Details on Education Freedom Accounts:  

• Education Freedom Accounts are a flexible grant that can be used for tuition, tutoring, online learning, textbooks and materials, internet connectivity, educational therapies and other learning experiences. New Hampshire is the tenth state in the country to adopt an education scholarship account program.   
• All residents who are eligible to enroll their child in a public elementary or secondary school and whose income is less than 300 percent of the federal poverty level will qualify.  
• An estimated 90,000 students would be eligible to participate.
