The Early Literacy Network was formed in 2015 as a forum for state department of education literacy leaders and reading program specialists who are directly responsible for implementing comprehensive early literacy policy and programs. The Network convenes quarterly to discuss current reading practices in early literacy, troubleshoot and share lessons learned as well as best practices for effective policy and program implementation. Membership has steadily grown, with 16 states now part of the Network.
States are leading in how they communicate about K-3 reading programs. Since 2017, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina and South Carolina, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska and Arizona have shared the following resources to engage parents and communities in the discussion on early literacy.
